The differences between margarine and butter - YOU NEED TO READ THIS.

This is interesting . .. .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings....

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .

And now, for Margarine..

Very High in Trans fatty acids.

Triples risk of coronary heart disease ...

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..

Lowers quality of breast milk

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT.

These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to butter them up')!

Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.

Pass the BUTTER PLEASE

BETTER way - show the processes needed to create Margarine which are complicated. Then the process to create butter.

I remember the little yellow packets that had to be 'worked into' the margarine. Margarine was not allowed to be sold in Wisconsin but it took off since it was so inexpensive. Birds will not eat margarine. we tried to make seed feeders using margarine to coat the cups and they would not eat it. covered the cups with real peanut butter or butter and no problem. it is nearly as expensive as butter now but not nearly as good. it is said...'if you cannot pronounce the ingredients...DO NOT EAT IT'

One half of my family/Grandparents consumed butter because they were dairy farmers and the other half used margarine. They were merchants. While many other factors may have contributed to their life span, the unscientific result is that the margarine eaters out lived the butter eaters. This in and of itself proves nothing and ads little to the debate. But,it does help to debunk the notion that margarine will kill you prematurely.

https://www.verywellhealth.com/butter-vs-margarine-for-a-low-cholesterol-diet-697723utter comes in two major forms: stick and spread. It is primarily made up of saturated fat and cholesterol. If you look at the ingredients label on the back of a butter product, one tablespoon, the equivalent of a pat of butter on your corn on the cob, contains almost half the recommended amount of saturated fat and cholesterol each day. Bottom line: It's very easy to enter dangerous territory with butter‚ as you probably know if you've ever drizzled some on a bowl of hot popcorn fresh out of the microwave.

One tablespoon of butter contains roughly 30 milligrams of cholesterol and 7 grams of saturated fat; the maximum amount allowed daily is 200 milligrams and 10 milligrams, respectively. Additionally, because both of these types of fats are linked to raising cholesterol and risk of heart disease, butter is recommended to use only sparingly.

Since butter comes from milk, if it's not organic or specifically labeled as free of bovine growth hormone (rGBH), it may contain rGBH. This substance can cause harm to cows and the verdict is still out as to whether it harms humans or not. In addition, butter from grass-fed cows is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for heart health, making it nutritionally superior to the more widely sold butter from conventionally-raised animals. If you do want to consume butter occasionally, do your best to get the healthiest sources.

There is no such thing as MARGERINE in the UK, it was banned years ago. the spreads we use today are as you say made from vegetable derivatives, whereas the original margerine was a by-product of the petro chemical industry and was a butter substistute during WW2.

Growing up on a farm reminds me of how the cream is separated from the milk and how the butteris made from cream with a tasty buttermilk left over. The buter is washed and since water and fat sparate.it is a cold process. Butter had to be paddled to get the water out and we had wooden one pound butter packers, or forms p After the ound is removed from the one pound mould it was wrapped in butter paper we had to purchase. We stored our own btter and eggs. Color varied due to the time of year, like spring, when chickens and cows ate more green grass which gave a stronger yellow colour to both.Margarine might have been safer when first substituted during the war years but then... MAN thinks he can make better money and ruined and fooled everyone.Do you know what you are eating in ready made baked goods? or ready nicely wrapped indivivually white cheese slices?? That I actually experienced No fly will bother to eat it. Man is wise in more than one way... either to help other mankind or to destroy. Look how crops are grown today and what cows eat and chickens are NOT free run most of the time. MONEY has to be made FAST so pack barns fullm of chickens that never see the daylight! Man is hun gry for money. How eelse will man bujy butter at $5.00 a pound. This is a dominoe effect and we can keep on arguing till the cows come home. Ha!ha!Who controls he price on butter?? Yes some butter will have more water.

Ever been on a dairy farm? Butter fat rises to the top of the milk and can be scooped off. It is yellow, not gray. And remains yellow as it melts on your toast. Or my popcorn. YUM!

I've made my own butter, so I'm quite familiar with it's natural colour. And my findings are that you are full of shite.

Anonymous said...

To the person that said that butter is full of puss& crap and is grey in colour you are full of shit. I grew up on a small Dairy farm, butter is made from cream which is naturally yellow. Also depending on what kind of cow you get the milk from will also determine how dark of yellow the cream is. The more butter fat there is in the milk the darker yellow your cream will be. Rest assured it is all natural.

I've never liked margarine, I feel it horrible. When I was young, butter was the devil itself, full of saturated fats, but I prefer to die happy and not to live long with hunger. When I want butter, I have butter. Margarine is not good even for turkeys. BTW, two years ago here, in Argentina, butter was missed in the supermarket (perhaps most the production was diverted to foreign markets). Those newspapers which always supported the current goverment published a lot about the danger of butter comsumption.

It natural for butter to have some water in it...butter is made from milk cream..the cream is pressed and shaked until the butter separates from the buttermilk(water) the butter is then removed and salted..buttermilk is then sold separately

That's enough to convince me.

Total bs this post. Margarine was developed in 1869 in France as a cheap alternative in the time of war do the troops had a source of butter that would not go bad. It was also pale yellow. No turkeys involved. This post is for the people on the internet that believe what they read.

Research you guys.

Also flaxseed oil is one of the heathiest oils out there and is an ingredient in many paint products.

When you post something get your facts right and don’t take everything out of context. Obviously the poster is just like the per sheep. Reads something and takes it as facevalue as it sounds right. I’m sure butter is healthier than margarine but give us some real truthful facts.

The moment you said "butter tastes better" you lost all credibility. That's so subjective, I think margarine tastes better.
Also, not all margarines are equal. There is a huge range of different fats and oils and emulsifiers used in margarines.

Anonymous said...

How come butter is so yellow? It is actually white! Yellow colouring must have been added which is bad for you. Most margarine now are made from healthy oils such as olive and canola oil. Some actually have butter in them and most are made from vegetable oils. Butter is animal fat which is saturated fat.

Don't believe all you read, check the facts: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alternative names Marge, oleo, oleomargarine
Type Spread
Place of origin France
Created by Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès
Main ingredients Vegetable oils

Margarine (/ˈmɑːrdʒərɪn, -ɡər-, -(ˈ)iːn/ (About this soundlisten)) is a spread used for flavoring, baking, and cooking, that was first made in France in 1869. It was created by Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès in response to a challenge by Emperor Napoleon III to create a butter substitute from beef tallow for the armed forces and lower classes.[1] First named oleomargarine from Latin for oleum (olive oil) and Greek for margarite (pearl indicating luster), it was later named margarine.[1]
